Charlotte’s Web Brand Story

Charlotte’s Web CBD has an interesting origin story. In 2011, a large medicinal marijuana dispensary in Colorado engineered a hybrid strain of hemp—with all the CBD oil benefits but none of the psychoactive effects from THC—for a little girl named Charlotte. The benefit for Charlotte was life-changing, and Charlotte’s Web Hemp was born.

Developed by the Stanley brothers, this strain of hemp worked so well that the Stanley brothers named the strain for Charlotte, and now sell a range of products including CBD hemp oils, capsules, topicals, and pet products that all feature the unique CBD hemp oil extract. Their mission is to provide products of the highest possible quality, while contributing to the sustainability of the communities they serve.

The Stanley brothers also began a 501c3 non-profit organization called Realm of Caring to support cannabis science research and help people that would benefit from cannabis, but can’t afford the treatment.

Editor’s Notes

Remedy Review is constantly working to make the review of hemp-derived products less subjective. That’s why we aim to put numbers around quality, value, and transparency. We also know it helps to hear what a real person thinks about a product before you spend your money. These Editor’s Notes are the opinion of our staff—not a suggestion from the brand and definitely not medical advice.

Source 🇺🇸

Based out of Colorado, Charlotte’s Web also sources their hemp extract from plants grown in this cannabis-savvy state. This is a positive note for the brand, especially since there tend to be stricter standards and better quality control for hemp grown within the United States.

Taste 👅

Charlotte’s Web CBD oil comes in two different flavors, and we’re partial to the chocolate mint option since it covers up the taste of hemp pretty well. There is also an olive oil flavor available for people that prefer a more natural tasting hemp oil.

Shopping Experience 🛍️

Streamlined online store experience. You click on a product and can select the flavor, size, and quantity. Some products, like the maximum strength hemp extract, are only available in retail stores. Free ground shipping is available on orders of $75 or more.

Range of Products

Charlotte’s Web is well-known for their CBD oils, although they have recently expanded their product line to include other application methods. In addition to our favorite products listed above, they also sell a hemp oil designed for pets as well as a hemp-infused cream that’s similar to their balm.

Our Experience

Charlotte’s Web is a cool brand with a good, compassionate origin story. We like that they use whole-plant extracts and aim to improve the lives of other people through the science of botanics. They also are keen to listening to what their customers have to say, and have recently added more products (like a CBD isolate) in response to requests from many of their loyal CW Hemp lovers.

However, it is worth mentioning that the names of their products can be confusing to people coming to their website for the first time. Their “Full Strength” CBD oil contains the lowest CBD potency, while the “Extra Strength” CBD oil is twice as strong as the Full Strength formula. The “Original Formula” CBD oil is their strongest CBD oil (that’s available online) and has eight times the CBD concentration of the Full Strength formula.

Lab Testing 🔬

Charlotte’s Web offers online access to their lab test results, which are available for download once a specific batch number is entered on their website. These batch numbers can be found on the bottle or packaging of CW Hemp’s products.

Pros 👍🏽

  • American-sourced hemp
  • Wide range of products available
  • Mission-driven organization that supports cannabis science research, medicine, and wellbeing
  • One of the more robust batch testing operations we’ve come across

Cons 👎🏽

  • It can be difficult to discern between CBD concentration and total hemp extracts when looking at Charlotte’s Web oils

Final Notes

You won’t find any condition-specific reviews on their site, or mentions of potential outcomes. For larger companies like CW Hemp, it’s necessary for them to be more cautious with what they say about their products. Customers have said that Charlotte’s Web CBD may have an impact on soreness, inflammation, anxiety, and sleep—similar to other cannabidiol products. Although it is important to note that outcomes vary by person, and you may want to talk with a medical professional before treating a serious condition with any alternative remedy.
