RALEIGH — Remedy Review,  a new media company focused on “separating fact from fiction” in the growing market of cannabidiol (CBD) products, will no longer review or recommend vape products.

The decision was made after a wave of stories about people becoming ill from mislabeled, tainted, or fake vape products, the company announced Wednesday.

Vape products are battery-operated devices that people use to inhale an aerosol, which typically contains nicotine (though not always), flavorings, and other chemicals. They include electronic cigarettes, also known as e-cigarettes, e-vaporizers (vape pens), or electronic nicotine delivery systems.

“While Remedy Review believes a handful of brands make quality, tested CBD vapes, the products are easily faked and too often end up in the hands of young people,” it said.

Marc Lewis, executive editor of Remedy Review, added: “We believe oils are the best way to take CBD. While there are vape brands we trust, we don’t like pushing people toward a potentially dangerous category.”

Launched in 2018, Remedy Review is an online site dedicated to publishing “evidence-based articles on the medical, economic, and lifestyle potential of hemp.”

One Better Ventures, which is headed by former Burt’s Bees CEO John Replogle, invested $2 million in the startup. It’s based out of the headquarters at Three Ships, a Raleigh-based digital publisher and customer acquisition company.
