Vape oils originally became popular as a way for people to get their nicotine fix without all of the harmful chemicals in tobacco cigarettes. Nicotine elicits a reward response in the brain by releasing dopamine and adrenaline hormones, but it is highly addictive and can cause feelings of irritability or tension in the chemical’s absence. CBD vape cartridges are a more recent invention that are not formulated with nicotine, and present an alternative option for many people that want to kick their addiction to nicotine.

What is a CBD cartridge?

Vaporizers typically feature removable cartridges that can either be refilled with vape oil, or disposed of for a new vape cartridge. A pre-filled CBD cartridge contains vape oil that’s generally comprised of propylene glycol (PG) or vegetable glycerin (VG), water, flavoring additives, and CBD extract. Many people have turned to CBD vape as an alternative to traditional vape pens since they are not addictive like nicotine, and may offer some additional benefits like anxiety relief, stress reduction, and pain management.

CBD Vape Oil vs CBD Hemp Oil

CBD oil is most often used in the form of sublingual drops, although it can also be ingested or applied topically to the skin. This is different than CBD vape oil, or vape juice, which is not intended for consumption except through inhalation. CBD vape cartridges are specifically formulated with ingredients designed to facilitate absorption of CBD through the lungs.

During this vape experience, CBD enters the bloodstream and begins taking effect almost immediately. In contrast, regular CBD oil contains highly concentrated plant extracts and should not be used in vape cartridges. They are not safe for inhalation and will likely lose many valuable cannabinoids when heated by a vaporizer.

Remedy Review does not recommend CBD vapes. But we understand some people want a smokable option. If you are going to buy a vape product containing CBD, please do not purchase from a questionable source, like an individual seller, convenience store, or vape shop. Buy directly from trusted brand with a history of thorough testing. Brands like Bluebird Botanicals, CBDfx, and Gold CBD are good places to start.

FAQ

Are CBD vape cartridges safe?

While CBD products have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration, they have been “generally recognized as safe” by the World Health Organization. However, vaping CBD is not the safest method of application, especially since inhaling anything other than oxygen can harm your lungs. If you have a medical condition and are unsure about how CBD may affect you, talk to a health care professional before using CBD.

Do you get high from vaping CBD?

No, CBD derived from hemp does not contain any THC, or the psychoactive element in cannabis. Because of this, it is impossible to get high from inhaling CBD vape. Instead, CBD indirectly interacts with CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors in the body’s endocannabinoid system to potentially promote anxiolytic, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory effects.

How long does a CBD cartridge last?

This will depend on how many milliliters of vape oil are in the cartridge, and your personal preference for how often, or how much vape you inhale. Typically, you’ll find cartridges that contain 0.5 to 1.5 mL of CBD vape oil, with 1 mL lasting on average anywhere from one week to three weeks, and possibly longer, if you vape less often or take smaller hits.
